Après LeBal de Kafka (2009) de l’auteur australien Timothy Daly, Isabelle Starkier met en scène un autre de ses textes, L’Homme dans le plafond, inspiré par un fait divers. Durant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, un juif est caché dans un grenier par un couple d’Allemands contre loyer et services, et une fois la guerre terminée, ils maintiennent plusieurs mois encore cette situation pour en tirer les bénéfices. Une relation complexe se noue entre les trois personnages, entre sadisme et attachement, entre enjeux inconscients et impératifs quotidiens, tandis qu’une narratrice accordéoniste, sorte de psychanalyste cocasse, ponctue l’histoire. Isabelle Starkier a l’art de mêler finement burlesque et tragique, faisant du théâtre un sacré révélateur de nos comportements. « Un voyage onirique parmi des monstres trop humains »…
