Après la belle réussite du Bal de Kafka, spectacle pétillant, inventif et émouvant, Isabelle Starkier propose la création d’un autre texte de l’auteur australien Timothy Daly, L’Homme dans le plafond. La pièce s’inspire d’un fait divers : durant la deuxième guerre mondiale, un juif est caché dans un grenier par un couple d’Allemands contre loyer et services, et une fois la guerre terminée, ils maintiennent plusieurs mois encore cette situation, pour continuer à en tirer les bénéfices. Une relation complexe se noue entre les trois personnages, entre sadisme et attachement, entre enjeux inconscients et impératifs quotidiens. La voisine risque de s’immiscer dans le lieu du secret. Et une narratrice accordéoniste, sorte de psychanalyste cocasse, ponctue le tragique par des remarques ou des chansons drôles. « Cette pièce joue sur le décalage subtil entre histoire vraie et mauvais rêve – avec un homme enfermé entre ciel et terre, un narrateur méphistophélique qui commente les scènes et suscite les confessions, et des relations « à vif » entre tous les personnages, » confie la metteure en scène Isabelle Starkier, qui a l’art de mêler finement burlesque et tragique, faisant du théâtre un sacré révélateur de nos comportements. « Un voyage onirique parmi des monstres trop humains »…
