Les chansons s’enchaînent, la danse également. Smoking et robe de soirée de rigueur, pour surfer sur le glamour et les paillettes d’une époque où « the Voice » régnait sur le music hall mais aussi sur Hollywood. Olivier Dubois prend le parti d’interpréter les danses d’alors, façon ballroom dancing et comédie musicale. L’esprit de Fred et Ginger règne en maître, les pas glissent sur le sol brillant, le style est impeccable, le flux est impressionnant tout au long des tubes qui se succèdent et font écho dans l’imaginaire de chacun. Olivier Dubois démontre qu’il est un véritable danseur, un artisan du geste pour se glisser avec autant de fluidité dans cette danse d’un autre âge.
Procédé de séduction
Mais suffit-il d’endosser un personnage, ses costumes et les danses d’alors pour construire une véritable pièce chorégraphique ? Suffit-il de vouloir « jouer à » pour porter un véritable propos ? Quand la voix se tait, à de rares moments, semble émerger la volonté d’une ambiguïté, d’un ailleurs, autrement. Mais le procédé de séduction reprend vite le dessus, la danse au kilomètre asphyxie toute tentative de recherche et de création chorégraphique. Aucune distance ne s’installe entre Olivier Dubois et son sujet. Autant de légèreté dans le fond que dans la forme… De son propre aveu une « bouffonnerie » qui aujourd’hui semble bien vaine et relègue l’artiste au rang d’animateur. Une bien piètre idée de son rôle et de sa portée.
