C’est à même la peau du réel que Lia Rodrigues taille sa danse. Chorégraphe militante, elle a installé sa compagnie au cœur de Mare, favela coincée entre la ville de Rio et l’aéroport où vivent près de 140 000 personnes. « Nous savions que nous serions confrontés à une violente inégalité économique et sociale. C’est pourquoi il nous a paru fondamental de créer un espace consacré à l’Art dans ce quartier privé d’accès à la culture, explique-t-elle. En partenariat avec REDES, association qui mène une action sociale et pédagogique, elle a construit, dans un ancien hangar, le Centre de Artes de la Mare qui a pour mission la création, la formation et la diffusion artistique. « Nous l’avons imaginé comme un endroit d’émancipation. La compagnie répète dans cet espace, y présente son répertoire, donne des cours de danse gratuits pour les habitants et organise, avec la REDES, d’autres activités culturelles. ». Voici plus de vingt ans que Lia Rodrigues trace sa ligne de conduite artistique et politique, exigeante et engagée. Après une enfance à Sao Paolo au milieu de livres près d’un père reporter, une adolescence marquée par la violente dictature militaire, une formation de ballerine classique et une expérience fondatrice auprès de Maguy Marin, la Brésilienne a fondé la Companhia de Danças en 1990 et œuvre depuis à créer autant qu’à inventer sa relation au territoire.
Une danse en prise avec le monde
Brutes, dépouillées de tout artifice, tendues sur la réalité vécue par les danseurs, ses pièces frappent par leur engagement généreux et leur recherche plastique. Avec Ce dont nous sommes faits (2000), la chorégraphe met les êtres à nu, sculpte la masse humaine et l’explore sous tous les angles jusqu’à brouiller les frontières de l’identité. Pour Formas Breves (2002), elle puise dans les écrits d’Oscar Schlemmer, figure majeure du Bauhaus, la sobriété et la force épurée du geste pour mener le corps à l’étrangeté. Un corps, chez elle, toujours paradoxal, à la fois sensuel et entravé, organique et mécanique. Inspiré de l’essai de Susan Sontag, Devant la douleur des autres, Incarnat (2005) s’interroge sur l’attitude face à la souffrance d’autrui et dévoile l’individu dans toute sa contradiction, entre force et faiblesse, entre solitude et solidarité. Prolongeant ses « chantiers poétiques », Pororoca (2009) questionne la rencontre avec l’autre et le possible être ensemble. Présentées à la Ferme du Buisson, qui, elle aussi, fête son vingtième anniversaire et fut un fidèle partenaire de la Companhia de Danças, ces quatre pièces témoignent d’une œuvre à vif, en prise avec le monde et l’expérience sensible des hommes.
