Merlin Nyakam, danseur d’origine camerounaise, qui travaille en France depuis
1992, est l’un des interprètes décapants de la compagnie Montalvo-Hervieu.
Depuis 2000, il a également sa propre compagnie : après une première création
qui jetait les bases de sa danse, entre tradition et invention, il se lance un
défi sous le titre éloquent de Liberté d’expression. Rares sont les
chorégraphes qui affichent un message aussi clairement inscrit dans l’actualité
géopolitique : « j’ai voulu rappeler que les signes d’appartenance religieuse
peuvent séparer les humains et provoquer la guerre ». Or la danse a souvent
été ? et est encore ? vilipendée par des responsables religieux autoritaires. Il
est donc réjouissant qu’un chorégraphe prenne cette question à bras le corps.
D’autant plus qu’une réflexion politique par Merlin Nyakam ne peut être
qu’énergique, menée avec jubilation par les cinq danseurs et trois musiciens,
dans une savoureuse alliance de musique africaine et de Beethoven.
