Liliom , la pièce de Ferenc Molnar, est une légende de l’imaginaire populaire hongrois qui enchante les esprits en mal d’onirisme. Dans l’ambiance bal musette de l’accordéon ou de l’orgue de Barbarie, la tête tourne d’abord aux jeunes employées de maison, Julie (Naidra Ayadi) et Marie ( Boutaïna Elfekkak). Elles s’ennuient sur leurs chevaux de bois, un ballon bleu à la main tenu par un fil, en attente d’un amoureux, peut-être l’homme à marier : « c’est interdit mais mon cœur y a droit.. ». Or, l’ivresse gagne aussi le bonimenteur Liliom (Jean-Christophe Folly) qui de son côté, rêve d’un avenir plus glorieux en Amérique. Implicitement, la scène économe de Marie Ballet donne vie à cet univers d’attractions foraines dans l’odeur des feuilles de tilleul avec ses tours de manège, ses animaux de bois – un grand Cerf pour Julie – et ses accessoires de métal, des montures d’enfants, avions et voitures de course à klaxon. Un monde merveilleux de jeux, de songes et d’enfance se déploie dans la sourdine des dialogues du film de Fritz Lang. Pourtant, les embûches que place la société ne manquent pas sur le chemin de croix des jeunes gens. Madame Muscat (Emmanuelle Ramu), la tenancière jalouse de la baraque foraine, voit en Liliom le meilleur bonimenteur de la foire et un fieffé séducteur de bonnes. À prendre ou à laisser.
Rêve nourri de fraîcheur candide
L’artiste forain s’émancipe : il s’installe avec la gamine aimante dans une roulotte de photographe, des guirlandes colorées accrochées au fil à linge. Liliom n’est pas un homme rangé, il bat sa femme, joue aux cartes avec l’infréquentable Dandy (Geoffroy Rondeau). Braquages nuls et coups du destin, le mauvais garçon rejoint le ciel avant de refaire un tour sur la terre sur proposition d’un gendarme céleste (Olivier Bernaux), histoire de voir sa fille. L’habitude est chez Liliom obsession, tenir longtemps son regard accroché dans le vide sur « les rails qui n’ont pas de fin ». Pris par le désir de fuir le réel, le vaurien n’a pas les mots pour dire à sa belle son amour. Mais le rêve est là, nourri de fraîcheur candide, qu’on soit dans les faubourgs en 1909 ou dans nos banlieues, c’est l’espérance enjouée qui gagne la scène grâce aux acteurs tous roués dont les Dupont de la police, Noémie Develay-Ressiguier et Nelson-Rafaell Madel jusqu’au mari de Marie (Matthieu Fayette). Un travail vigoureux et inspiré qui rompt avec malice tous les attendus.
