Récitals, concertos, jazz… Toutes les façons de faire sonner le piano ont leur place au Lille Piano Festival. Organisateur de l’événement, l’Orchestre national de Lille donne trois concerts, ainsi qu’un opéra pour enfants : Brundibar de Hans Krása. Il décline la thématique de la guerre, avec des concertos écrits pour la main gauche à la demande de Paul Wittgenstein, blessé lors de la Première Guerre mondiale : les Diversions de Britten et le Concerto de Korngold (avec Nicolas Stavy) et le Concerto pour la main gauche de Ravel (avec Abdel Rahman El Bacha). Cette thématique est illustrée tout au long du festival par des pièces de Ravel, les dernières pages de Debussy, mais aussi d’autres, plus rares, signées Cécile Chaminade, Nadia Boulanger ou William Baines, contemporains de la Grande Guerre. A écouter aussi celles d’Olivier Messiaen, Viktor Ullmann ou Pavel Haas, écrites en captivité lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Parmi les pianistes invités, on peut citer David Kadouch (Concerto n° 2 de Chopin dirigé par Jean-Claude Casadesus, Jean-Marc Luisada, Marie Vermeulin (qui jouera la rare Sonate d’Aaron Copland, écrite en 1941), Vanessa Wagner (en duo avec le musicien électro Murcof), François-Frédéric Guy, Cyprien Katsaris, Wilhem Latchoumia, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, David Lively, Lidija et Sanja Bizjak, Michel Béroff…
