C’est en tant que chanteur que l’acteur Michel Fau se produit sur le plateau. L’esprit du music-hall et de la revue est descendu sur le comédien alors qu’il était enfant, le regard ébahi devant les prestations au cinéma de Michel Simon ou d’Arletty, artistes multiples qui pouvaient passer « naturellement » du théâtre à la revue. Georgette Lemaire, Betty Mars, Dalida…, ces figures touchent profondément l’acteur, attiré par l’opérette et la voix chantée des comédies musicales. Ce goût de la comédie et du jeu lui est venu en découvrant le théâtre avec les interprétations de Jacqueline Maillan, Jean Poiret, Sophie Desmarets, Maria Pacôme et Zizi Jeanmaire. Fasciné par le cliché et le kitsch, Fau dit ne pas jouer au second degré mais au premier. La part théâtrale de l’individu, ses masques et travestissements, sont l’objet de sa recherche. L’impardonnable revue pathétique et dégradante de Monsieur Fau est un spectacle de chansons d’amour sur la séduction, le désir, le déshabillage et la mise à nu … de la chair, à la façon des revues classiques où chanter et parler s’associent de façon jubilatoire.
