Sous le masque de Constant, Jack mène une vie de patachon avec Algernon. Las de la débauche, il veut épouser Gwendolen. Mais Gwendolen rêve d’un Constant, et Algernon veut continuer la vie de plaisirs avec son ami. Imbroglios et quiproquos s’enchaînent, dans une pièce où l’humour sert de masque à la grave question des choix existentiels. Convaincu que « pour échapper à l’univers adulte contraignant et absurde décrit par Wilde, les personnages font exploser leurs corsets avec des jeux d’enfants », le metteur en scène Imago Visentin fait jouer la pièce aux comédiens comme s’ils étaient des enfants. Des chansons sont insérées dans le texte, pour contribuer à faire naître cet esprit libre et ludique : « le texte de Wilde est lui-même très musical, et parfois écrit comme une partition ; ce qui nous pousse à voir cette comédie comme un allegro dans lequel nous pouvons mettre tout notre plaisir et notre énergie », disent les Framboisiers.
