La programmation des spectacles de musique, de théâtre et de danse du Musée du Quai Branly explore, en 2007-08, les patrimoines immatériels liés au corps. Le premier cycle de cette thématique, du 20 au 30 décembre, questionne la notion de « corps animal » par le biais de performances, ateliers, conférences, films… Du 26 au 28 décembre, c’est l’Inde du Sud qui est à l’honneur, avec un programme présentant la « danse des tigres » puis la « danse du lion », toutes deux marquées par le recours à la peinture corporelle. Dans la danse du lion, les danseuses sacrées des temples dessinaient au sol, à l’aide de poudres colorées, l’image de la monture de la déesse Shakti, un lion. Cette danse avait quasiment disparu d’Inde dans les années 1960. Grâce à certaines danseuses, elle renaît et se perpétue : Ananda Shankar Jayant est l’une d’elles. Elle exécute ce graphisme dans le style de la danse « Kuchipudi », l’une des sept danses classiques de l’Inde, qui remonterait au IIIe siècle avant notre ère et repose sur des poses sculpturales, sur l’art de la gestuelle et du mime et sur un important travail des pieds.
Enfants-tigres
La performance d’Ananda Shankar Jayant sera précédée de la danse des tigres, interprétée par des enfants : chaque année en Inde du Sud, au terme d’une séance de maquillage qui dure aux alentours de trois heures, ils se transforment en lion, tigre, léopard ou hyène. C’est cette métamorphose d’une dizaine d’enfants que nous sommes invités à découvrir. D’abord immobiles et silencieux, les bras posés sur de longs bâtons, ils se livrent à une représentation de l’animal au son des tambours. L’exploration des attitudes des félins – marchant, rampant, mangeant, dormant – fait naître une étonnante chorégraphie. Pantomime ? Possession ? Le trouble est d’autant plus grand que la finalité de cette danse et sa signification sociale nous échappent, ouvrant la voie à un voyage imaginaire qui remet en jeu nos propres représentations du monde animal.
