Même cette année-anniversaire célébrant le 200ème anniversaire de la naissance de Liszt, avec son flot impressionnant de concerts et d’enregistrement, peinera à clarifier l’image d’un compositeur, artiste et homme totalement hors normes, caractérisée par son génie virtuose, une personnalité inclassable et une œuvre monumentale et anarchique. La programmation musicale du Musée d’Orsay fait le choix de souligner le goût de la paraphrase chez Liszt, qui s’est plu, tout au long de sa vie musicale, à s’emparer de la musique des autres pour la relire en la transformant, et finalement en se l’appropriant. Un art de la transcription et du « copier-créer » qui le rapproche de la démarche de certains peintres ou plasticiens du XXè siècle… Dans la série des concerts de midi trente, plusieurs programmes illustrent cet aspect méconnu et surtout peu valorisé de l’œuvre de Liszt, servis par le pianiste Stephanos Tomopoulos (le 8, transcriptions pour piano d’extraits d’opéras de Verdi), les pianistes Yun-Ho Chen, Delphine Armand, Marie Duquesnois et Simon Ghraichy dans des versions à quatre mains ou deux pianos de ses poèmes symphoniques (le 15), ou encore, avec le concours de jeunes chanteurs du Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris, des airs d’opéras de Weber, Berlioz ou Wagner transcrits avec accompagnement de piano (le 29).
