Personnalité attachante et généreuse, Roger Tessier a consacré une grande partie de sa vie artistique à défendre la création musicale de son temps. Cofondateur de l’ensemble L’Itinéraire au côté de Tristan Murail, Hugues Dufourt et Gérard Grisey, cet élève d’Olivier Messiaen a ainsi contribué à l’éclosion du courant dit spectral qui, par son attention particulière portée au timbre, irrigue aujourd’hui encore les courants les plus vivaces de la création contemporaine. Son œuvre, composée sur près d’un demi-siècle, aborde les effectifs les plus variés. L’Itinéraire, pour célébrer les soixante-dix ans de celui qui exerce aujourd’hui les fonctions de secrétaire de l’ensemble, en interprète un florilège : Clair obscur pour soprano, ensemble et électronique (1979), Omaggio a Carpaccio pour 17 musiciens (1986), ainsi qu’une création (70 Flashes).
