Un titre de faire-part de naissance, un couple d’amoureux au centre du projet, des textes nourris d’enfance, d’images, de déclarations, de temps qui passe et de souvenirs, et nous voici plongés dans un album de famille. Un album romancé, où réalisme et allégorie rêveuse se partagent les couplets. « C’est un garçon » a été engendré par un duo à la ville comme à la scène – et en studio – Laure & Olivier Slabiak. Un couple musicalement métis, union d’une chanteuse lyrique et d’un violoniste tzigane (les Yeux Noirs). Autour de cette cellule familiale sont venus se greffer quelques talentueux nucléons, guidés par Joseph Racaille, arrangeur (Thomas Fersen, Bashung, Arthur H) qui a l’art de tendre les notes pour décocher la juste émotion. La sortie du giron se fait sans forceps, avec une douceur élégante emplie de cordes en tous genres, de percussions discrètes et efficaces, de vents aériens et nuageux, d’une basse de tous les possibles… La voix ronde et cotonneuse de Laure Slabiak, parfois doublée de celle d’Olivier, enveloppe de sucre-glace une belle pop aux teintes irisées, tantôt hispano-gitane, parfois jazzy, souvent rock, le tout avec une variété instrumentale qui exotise un brin ce très beau rêve éveillé. « C’est un garçon », sorti chez Elles & O / Anticraft.
