Oyez, oyez, mélomanes admirateurs des explosifs mélanges des genres, L’Occidentale de Fanfare sort de son silence. Après trois années de « pause », suite à l’envie de Francis Mounier de « passer le relais », la formation débarque avec un nouveau répertoire et de nouvelles ambitions artistiques. Son nouveau maître à jouer, le clarinettiste Fred Pouget, l’exprime en ces termes : « j’ai suivi le cahier des charges : une rencontre entre deux orchestres emblématiques, le Bagad breton et la Ripataoulère gasconne, le tout mêlé de cuivres. Ce qui a changé, c’est le nombre et la polyvalence des musiciens, mais aussi l’envie d’accroître la qualité visuelle. » Agacé par les concerts où les musiciens se dispersent pendant les solos des uns ou les monologues des autres, L’Occidentale de Fanfare cherche dorénavant à tout faire pour que le public se concentre sur sa musique, unique et jubilatoire. Avec des nouvelles compositions où les univers du jazz et des musiques traditionnelles cohabitent sans hiatus, cette fanfare dédiée à l’Ouest de la France reste impossible à catégoriser. Il n’est pas rare de reconnaître des clins d’œil au reggae ou à la funk et même à l’Histoire de la formation : « dans l’écriture, j’ai fait des clins d’œil à l’ancien directeur artistique » confie Fred Pouget, avant d’annoncer, l’air de rien, qu’« à l’avenir », il ne serait pas étonnant que des voix fassent leur entrée dans cette fanfare enthousiasmante et (vraiment) pas comme les autres.
