Quel œil portez-vous sur le déménagement du Tarmac dans les locaux de l’ancien Théâtre de l’Est Parisien ?
Lotfi Achour : D’un point de vue pratique, c’est très intéressant, car le plateau est beaucoup plus grand. Cela permettra donc d’accueillir une plus large palette de spectacles et d’offrir à la francophonie une plus grande visibilité. A l’heure où le concept de francophonie recule dans le monde arabe, c’est très important.
Pourquoi la francophonie vous semble-t-elle reculer ?
L.A : Parce que le français est dénoncé par certains leaders islamistes en Tunisie comme une pollution linguistique du pays. Aujourd’hui, tout y est tronqué par le débat sur l’identité nationale. Les islamistes ont récupéré ce thème issu de l’époque de la décolonisation. Sauf qu’à l’époque, le nationalisme arabe consistait à regarder du côté de Nasser contre l’Occident et qu’aujourd’hui, il consiste à se tourner vers le Qatar et l’Arabie Saoudite.

Vos spectacles interrogent-ils justement cette identité arabe ?
L.A : J’ai écrit Hobb Story un an avant la chute de Ben Ali. Hobb Story posait la question de la liberté individuelle et du rapport au religieux. Beaucoup l’ont vu comme un autre visage de l’Islam, abordant la sexualité sans tabou et laissant la liberté à chacun : c’est une lecture possible. Mais je voulais avant tout ausculter la représentation collective du monde arabe à travers ce qui y crée une véritable schizophrénie : la vie sexuelle. Quant à Comédie indigène, j’en ai eu l’idée suite aux émeutes en banlieue et à la loi sur les bienfaits de la colonisation. Je voulais rechercher quelle représentation de l’autre l’histoire coloniale avait construite pour interroger ce qui pouvait en rester aujourd’hui.
Qualifieriez-vous ce théâtre de théâtre documentaire ?
L.A : Le théâtre documentaire est un genre dont il est difficile de saisir les contours. Pour ma part, je conjugue documents et faux témoignages, vrais livres et pseudo-essais… Théâtre documentaire ne veut pas dire ennui. Comédie indigène est une comédie noire, à la fois drôle et violente, sur les représentations des peuples colonisés véhiculées par la propagande coloniale. Quant à Hobb Story, la pièce se présente comme un talk show de télé berlusconienne où est organisé un débat sur le sexe dans le monde arabe.
La nouvelle situation en Tunisie influe-t-elle sur votre travail ?
L.A : Avec d’autres artistes tunisiens, nous avons mis en place une plateforme de réflexion et de vigilance. Les premières manifestations islamistes visent les artistes et les universités. La culture et l’éducation sont des enjeux primordiaux, comme celui de la langue. Il ne faut pas laisser les islamistes déposséder les gens de ce qui leur permet de se relier aux autres parties du monde.
