OPERA DE DIJON
Composé en même temps de Rigoletto et créé à Trieste en 1850, Stiffelio est l’un des ouvrages de Verdi les moins joués. Et pour cause, il a disparu des salles peu après la première, la censure ayant exigé l’expurgation d’un livret qu’elle jugeait scandaleux, où un clergyman évangéliste est confronté à l’adultère de son épouse. Le compositeur a alors retiré le titre de l’affiche, et, sept ans plus tard, réutilisé la musique pour Aroldo, avec une intrigue médiévale inspirée de Walter Scott et Bulwer-Lytton. Avec la redécouverte de fragments autographes il y a une trentaine d’années, la partition originale a pu retrouver le chemin des scènes. Dans la coproduction présentée à l’Opéra national du Rhin l’année dernière, Bruno Ravella illustre la première tentative de Verdi dans le registre du drame bourgeois, qui connaîtra le succès avec La Traviata – après une première vénitienne également controversée. À Dijon, Stefano Secco incarne le rôle-titre sous la direction de Debora Waldman, l’une des cheffe les plus en vue de la nouvelle génération, à la tête de l’Orchestre régional d’Avignon-Provence depuis 2020.
