Parmi les multiples styles d’opéra chinois, qui varient selon les régions, les dialectes et les traditions, l’Opéra de Pékin est le plus récent mais aussi le plus réputé. Fondé en 1790 dans la capitale, il est aujourd’hui sacré « Trésor national vivant ». Riche d’un répertoire de plus de 2000 pièces, cet art populaire puise dans les histoires merveilleuses de la littérature classique, les biographies ou les légendes bouddhistes et taoïstes. Musique, chant, danse, mime, arts martiaux, acrobatie, sculpture ou encore peinture : tous les arts se joignent sur la scène pour parler aux sens. Le jeu des acteurs obéit ici à des codes précis, transmis de maître à disciple, et fait du moindre geste un vecteur de la fable. Avec 35 artistes dont 25 acteurs et 10 musiciens, l’Académie Nationale de Tianjin présente quatre pièces qui déclinent la diversité des genres et des techniques.
