Figure marquante de la jeune scène théâtrale hongroise, Béla Pintér, 38 ans, allie le talent et l’insolence dans un art de la mise en scène qui décape volontiers les bienséances pomponnées du style. Maniant aussi bien l’authentique folklore hongrois que les formes théâtrales postmodernes, il frotte souvent sans ménagement tragique et comique en étincelles glaçantes. Très librement inspiré de L’Opéra des gueux de John Gay, son Opéra paysan glisse sous la table d’un banquet de mariage préparé à la hâte et dévoile les sordides dessous de la fête : crasseux marchandages, mesquines tractations, vilaines réalités et autres secrets de famille. Entre rire et effroi, dérapages et fantaisies, cette balade baroque brasse récitatifs accompagnés au clavecin et chants populaires transylvaniens transformés en arias sous la baguette de Benedek Darvas. Un opéra tout en bruyants contrastes pour une sombre comédie…
