Avec la Deuxième Symphonie, on est au cœur de l’œuvre d’Alexandre Borodine. Composée en parallèle de son opéra – resté inachevé – Le Prince Igor, elle en partage la dimension épique, les couleurs éclatantes et l’écho des danses populaires. Nabil Shehata, ancien assistant de Daniel Barenboim à Berlin et invité régulier de l’Orchestre national de Metz, dirige également le Concerto en fa majeur de Chostakovitch, à l’allégresse excessive sinon suspecte, où les deux mouvements vifs, virtuoses, tranchent avec la mélancolie de l’andante. Chostakovitch l’écrivit à l’intention de son fils Maxim, pour ses dix-neuf ans. C’est aujourd’hui Lukáš Vondráček, lauréat du Concours Reine Élisabeth en 2016, qui s’en empare. En ouverture, Drone Jonction, première pièce pour grand orchestre de Florent Caron-Darras, composée lors de sa résidence à la Cité musicale de Metz.
