Avant même sa nomination comme directeur musical de l’OPS, en septembre 2021, le jeune chef ouzbek Aziz Shokhakimov a montré son talent dans un vaste répertoire, excellent dans Chostakovitch ou Mahler, mais aussi très en verve dans la musique française, par exemple. Ce programme intelligemment construit rassemble des œuvres reposant à des degrés divers sur les traditions populaires : les Danses roumaines, rythmées et colorées, de Bartók, le ballet Petrouchka de Stravinsky et le Concerto pour violon de Ligeti (1923-2006), chef-d’œuvre virtuose aux atmosphères surprenantes et changeantes, qui plonge ses références folkloriques dans une perpétuelle fantaisie. La violoniste Patricia Kopatchinskaja a depuis longtemps fait sienne la poésie insolente de cette musique, au point de proposer sa propre cadence en conclusion du concerto.
