« “Je suis plus creux et plus vide qu’une statue de fer blanc”, c’est cette phrase qui me revient en mémoire régulièrement quand je pense à Lorenzaccio ; Lorenzo après son geste meurtrier crache à Philippe tout le désespoir, le mal être, l’amertume d’une génération ». Si Catherine Marnas a décidé de mettre en scène Lorenzaccio, c’est parce que Florence en 1537, minée par un pouvoir infondé et corrompu et par une inertie désabusée, évoque et les échecs de l’époque louis-philipparde et notre crise et le sentiment d’impuissance plombant qui l’accompagne. C’est pour lutter contre une rage et un immobilisme aigris qu’en humaniste convaincue, elle déploie ce drame. « Ce qui m’intéresse chez Lorenzo, c’est que c’est un impatient plutôt qu’un nihiliste complet. Il en a assez de l’immobilité. » confie-t-elle*. Rapprochant Lorenzo d’Hamlet, son frère et modèle en indignation, elle resserre l’action autour d’une douzaine de personnages et de huit acteurs, et à travers un montage vif et rythmé, réactive les enjeux poétiques, philosophiques et politiques de la pièce. Avec Vincent Dissez dans le rôle-titre.
