Le sexe comme sport de compétition, l’orgasme comme trophée… la première scène de L’Orgie de la Tolérance a de quoi déranger, faire rire ou glacer le sang, mais elle plante d’emblée le décor d’une société qui ressemble étrangement à la nôtre, à travers le miroir de nos excès. En écho, le spectacle fait œuvre d’abondance, d’outrance, de démesure, face à ce qui nous lie, ce qui nous tient : le sexe, l’argent, la religion… Bienvenue dans un monde où l’on se branle à gogo, où Jésus devient une gravure de mode, où l’on accouche dans des caddies ses propres produits de consommation, et où le billet de banque s’entretient en salle de gym !
Spectateur-voyeur
Un constat difficile à entendre, tant il est montré sans nuance, dans toute sa cruauté. Car Jan Fabre a choisi ici de montrer plus que de démontrer, à grand renfort de saynètes qui chacune produise quantité d’images percutantes. Tout son art réside dans le fait de produire du sens dans toutes les situations qui défilent sous nos yeux. Mais que faire face à ce déploiement de caricatures, à ces tableaux à sens unique ? S’il affirme en chanson « détester cette mascarade », il laisse peu de place à la distance et à l’interprétation nécessaire pour ingurgiter une telle œuvre. Cela vient plus tard, comme un second souffle dans l’esprit du spectateur malmené, contraint de tolérer l’intolérable.
