L’orgie de la tolérance, c’est la débauche de vanité bourgeoise, d’égoïsme et d’indifférence bon teint que recouvre notre civilisation capitaliste. Une civilisation dans laquelle, souligne Jan Fabre, « tout s’achète, se peut, se fait » : où est le vrai désir dans cette société où « même la volupté devient un sport », où « l’humain se dissout dans le marché » ? C’est bien de marché qu’il s’agit, car, pour le chorégraphe, la tolérance que nous affichons vis-à-vis de la sexualité ou de la pornographie ne fait que dissimuler des enjeux commerciaux, et s’accompagne en fait d’un conservatisme et d’un contrôle social accrus. Quel doit être, alors, le rôle de la danse et du théâtre ? Le Flamand s’inspire de l’humour corrosif des Monty Python, et nous livre une suite de saynètes – ballet pour chariots de supermarché, séances de « relaxation monétaire », et bien sûr confessions en « prime time » – aussi crues que nécessaires.
