Malgré sa notoriété, Aida n’est pas si souvent représenté à l’Opéra de Paris. Entre 1968 et 2013, l’œuvre n’avait plus été montée jusqu’à la mise en scène d’Olivier Py. Cette fois, c’est à Lotte de Beer qu’il revient de proposer une nouvelle version. Cette Néerlandaise qui fera ses débuts à l’Opéra de Paris, et qui est également directrice de la compagnie Operafront, portera « un regard critique sur la représentation européenne des peuples colonisés, nous incitant à repenser notre rapport aux productions esthétiques du passé et du présent ». Une lecture que viendra pimenter la direction musicale du chef verdien Michele Mariotti. Surtout, le plateau vocal s’annonce extrêmement séduisant avec dans le rôle-titre Sondra Radvanovsky, Elīna Garanča dans Ameneris, Jonas Kaufmann dans Radames et Ludovic Tézier dans Amonasro.
