Roman musical : c’est en ces termes que Gustave Charpentier définit Louise,
créé à l’Opéra Comique en 1900. Cette plongée au c’ur de la vie de bohème et des
petites gens évoque effectivement certains romanciers comme Zola ou Maupassant.
La puissance réaliste de l’?uvre de Charpentier fit d’ailleurs scandale lors de
sa création ? La Bohème de Puccini paraissait édulcorée à côté !
Musicalement, la partition mêle écriture conventionnelle et influence
wagnérienne. Charpentier emploie même avec habileté le procédé du leitmotiv,
cher à l’auteur du Ring. Cette nouvelle production de l’Opéra de Paris
est confiée au metteur en scène André Engel, aguerri aux contraintes du lyrique,
et à l’incontournable chef d’orchestre Sylvain Cambreling. Quant à la
distribution, elle réunit notamment Mireille Delunsch, dont les qualités
dramatiques devraient faire merveille dans le rôle-titre, Paul Groves et José
Van Dam.
