Ce petit festival parti de presque rien est devenu en deux décennies l’un des premiers grands rendez-vous jazz de la saison d’été, mais sans rien perdre de la fougue et de la foi de ses débuts. Charlotte Rivière, directrice du Luberon Jazz Festival, aime à voir son festival aux antipodes « des rassemblements musicaux convenus qui foisonnent dans notre région l’été venu », soulignant en particulier son engagement citoyen, consistant à imaginer « toutes les pistes possibles pour faire aimer le jazz au plus grand nombre » et son ancrage dans la région du Lubéron avec, tout au long de l’année ses actions jazz en milieu rural. Cette édition des 20 ans fait une large place aux créations et découvertes, avec son lot de musiciens de la région (Emilie Lesbros, Laure Donnat, Api Sproutch…), le meilleur du nouveau jazz français (Radiation 10, Rétroviseur, Jeanne Added….), quelques valeurs sûres européennes (Mikko Innanen, Plop, Musica Nuda…) ou françaises (Joëlle Léandre , Jean-Jacques Milteau, Bernard Lubat, Christian Vander) et enfin, en concert exclusif (ou presque) en France, le tromboniste Ray Anderson et son Pocket Brass Band composé de Lew Soloff (trompette), Matt Perrine (tuba) et Bobby Previte (batterie) pour une relecture déjantée et magistrale de la tradition musicale de La Nouvelle-Orléans (le 16 mai à 17 h à Apt).
