En 1835, Gaetano Donizetti prenait la succession de Vincenzo Bellini comme plus grand compositeur lyrique vivant. Lucia di Lammermoor traduisait les goûts d’une époque à cheval entre celle du bel canto orné et celle du romantisme, plus sombre, plus puissante. Pourtant le chef-d’œuvre le plus fameux de Donizetti n’a jamais quitté l’affiche et aujourd’hui encore fascine son auditoire, surtout en salle où l’expérience de la scène de la folie, d’une beauté instrumentale et d’une intensité dramatique poignantes, provoque immanquablement le délire du public. Le livret tiré d’un roman de Walter Scott est inspiré d’une histoire vraie et à jamais irrésolue, celle de Janet Dalrymple, retrouvée folle à côté du corps en sang de l’homme que sa famille l’avait forcée à épouser. Dans l’opéra, l’héroïne exprime ses errements sans hystérie mais avec un extrémisme dans la difficulté technique qui touche directement nos âmes, aujourd’hui encore. Il est impossible de concevoir une nouvelle production de Lucia sans une soprano exceptionnelle. Au Théâtre des Louvrais, c’est Isabelle Philippe qui se mesure au rôle-titre, avec une sincérité de jeu, un médium épanoui, un suraigu facile qui font d’elle une interprète excitante et pertinente. Elle est entourée de Juan Carlos Echeverry en Edgardo, Patrice Berger en Enrico et Vincent Billier en Raimondo.
