OPERA ROYAL DE VERSAILLES / OPERA DE LULLY
Avec sa résurrection devenue mythique de William Christie et Jean-Marie Villégier pour le tricentenaire de la mort de Lully en 1987, Atys a apporté une contribution majeure au retour de l’opéra baroque au répertoire. S’il n’est plus rare de confier une production lyrique à un chorégraphe, c’est néanmoins un défi certain qui attend Angelin Preljocaj pour son premier opéra, où l’on attend son art de la réinvention de la tradition classique au cœur d’une écriture contemporaine. À son palmarès de mythes dont il a proposé une relecture toujours singulière, il pourra ajouter un argument antique tiré des Fastes d’Ovide. Dans cette approche de la tragédie lyrique, il sera épaulé par la science et l’instinct musicaux de Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, reconnus dans l’opéra du seicento italien, mais pas seulement – Paris avait pu l’applaudir dans Les Indes galantes de Rameau à la Bastille.
