Le flamenco est le résultat d’une migration au long cours de l’Inde à l’Espagne, s’imprégnant des cultures traversées, apportant une richesse de timbres grâce à des instruments encore inconnus dans l’Europe médiévale, comme le oud ou le santour iranien. Dans Luminescence, Amir ElSaffar, musicien irako-américain, interprète de santour et de trompette, mêle habilement tradition arabe-andalouse, sons électroniques modernes et percussions originales. Sur les modulations de chants mozarabes de Gema Caballero qui conjugue le cante jondo au maqâm, un genre musical d’une rare intensité, se déploient les volutes de Vanessa Aibar, étoile montante de la danse flamenca. Remarquablement expressive, ponctuant et soulignant le flux musical, elle porte Luminescence à son point d’incandescence. Son acuité gestuelle, son corps flexible, ses mouvements explosifs cisèlent l’espace et confèrent à la pièce une force dramaturgique peu commune.
