Ce spectacle d’une rare originalité confirme Joël Pommerat dans sa qualité de magicien du théâtre : il donne à voir de façon immédiate et pourtant suggestive, de façon puissante et pourtant subtile, indirecte, voire onirique, préférant la complexité du réel aux vérités tranchantes, accordant finalement au spectateur une grande liberté de pensée et une jubilation certaine. Dans le même dispositif scénique que pour Cercles/Fictions, – piste circulaire et gradins -, le metteur en scène nous convie à un drôle de cirque existentiel où se joue une partition millimétrée, où s’exprime un choeur politique où la singularité de chacun des neuf personnages prend corps et vie dans la relation à l’autre, aux autres et à soi, où les mots résonnent avec acuité et parfois une ironie cinglante. La mise en scène sculpte et cisèle l’espace par un univers sonore et visuel toujours remarquablement travaillé et par une direction d’acteurs époustouflante.
Accumulation de contradictions
Personnage central de cette comédie humaine hypnotique et souvent drôle : Estelle, indéfectiblement (suppose-t-on) serviable et corvéable, croyant aux vertus exemplaires de la bonté, et donc à la transformation toujours possible des individus… en bien. Le problème de la souffrance des êtres et de la nature du mal, indicible, insensé, traverse toute la pièce… Estelle est employée modèle du magasin de Blocq, patron odieux, qui lorsqu’il apprend qu’il va mourir, décide de léguer l’entreprise à ses employés. Les ouvriers sont appelés à devenir dirigeants d’entreprise : une mutation difficile, qui interroge de multiples façons les fonctions et positions sociales. Les tractations et les hésitations vont bon train et prennent d’étonnantes et ambivalentes directions. Rendant hommage à Blocq, Estelle décide de monter une pièce de théâtre. La fable se double d’une mise en abyme du théâtre avec Estelle en chef de troupe, théâtre dans le théâtre qui se régale des collisions entre illusion et réel, mensonge et vérité. Cet enchevêtrement d’identités, ces accumulations de contradictions, ces articulations sensibles entre individuel et collectif et ces questionnements socio-politiques font sens et subjuguent, sans oublier évidemment tout simplement la beauté du spectacle de la compagnie Louis Brouillard.
