Le théâtre, amateur de superstitions autant que de merveilles, charrie nombre de rumeurs. Parmi celles-là, la malédiction de la « pièce écossaise » : la nommer porte malheur et provoque les forces maléfiques qui guident les protagonistes monstrueux de cette tragédie sanglante. Revisitant Shakespeare et les histoires épouvantables de Duncan, Banquo et les époux Macbeth, les Moutons Noirs ont demandé à Gustave Akakpo « une écriture crue, sans détour, une poésie sanglante et fiévreuse » pour interroger « la violence très contemporaine, somme toute, très humaine et très universelle » de la pièce. Une troupe de théâtre s’apprête à monter Macbeth et sollicite un mystérieux mécène pour mener à bien leur projet. Mais celui-ci exige de jouer le rôle-titre. Entre les comédiens, se joue alors le même drame que sur la lande, la cupidité et la soif du pouvoir conduisant inexorablement au crime et à la folie…
