La saison lyrique de l’Opéra de Massy s’ouvre avec le célèbre opéra de Puccini confié à Juraj Valcuha pour la direction musicale et Mireille Larroche pour la mise en scène. « Monter Madame Butterfly aujourd’hui, pour une femme metteur en scène est particulièrement émouvant » confie la directrice de la Péniche Opéra. Madame Butterfly nous parle d’aujourd’hui : c’est une Antigone contemporaine. Ce sont toujours les femmes qui subissent les outrages les plus violents ». Plaçant sa lecture dans une perspective très actuelle – tout en empruntant au langage gestuel et visuel du Japon du début du XXè siècle -, elle dédie le drame de la geisha Cio-Cio San, bafouée par un officier américain au point de se faire hara-kiri, « aux femmes qui partout dans le monde sont d’un côté dans des sociétés archaïques et l’autre en proie aux impérialismes ». Le tandem prometteur que Mireille Laroche forme avec le jeune chef slovaque s’entoure des voix de Rié Hamada (Cio-Cio San) et Avi Klemberg (Pinkerton) dans les deux rôles principaux.
