Depuis deux décennies, Madeleine Peyroux survole avec grâce la scène du jazz vocal, empruntant à la pop, au blues ou à la folk, patinant compositions et reprises de son timbre sensible. C’est un retour nostalgique que s’offre la plus française des chanteuses américaines – elle a grandi à New York puis en Californie avant de succomber à l’adolescence au charme de la vie parisienne – avec une tournée mondiale, accompagnant la réédition de son album « Careless Love » en version « Deluxe ». Produit par Larry Klein, ce deuxième album fourmillait de reprises inoubliables, de Leonard Cohen (“Dance Me to the End of Love”), à Bessie Smith (“Don’t Cry Baby”), Billie Holiday (“No More”) ou Josephine Baker (“J’ai Deux Amours”). « Cela fait plus de quinze ans que ce disque est sorti, et je ne pense pas avoir fait un seul concert qui n’incluait pas au moins deux ou trois chansons de celui-ci, et parfois plus. Ce disque fait partie de moi » confie la chanteuse. En revenant en concert sur cet opus qui a changé son destin musical, Peyroux semble boucler un cycle empreint d’une maturité aux faux airs retenus, d’une poésie entêtante, avec une grâce qui la rend aussi intime qu’insaisissable.
