Maggie the Cat est le célèbre personnage de la pièce de Tennessee Williams (1953), La Chatte sur un toit brûlant. Trajal Harrell s’en inspire – et plus particulièrement du film dans lequel Elisabeth Taylor interprète Maggie – pour imaginer une pièce très personnelle, où le mot cat évoque plutôt le catwalk des défilés. Le travail de Trajal Harrell, issu du voguing, illustre souvent le mouvement des podiums en tant que langage de danse en soi. Resplendissant dans une robe de chambre évanescente, Harrell se transforme en Big Mama, tandis que Big Daddy est incarné par Perle Palombe en chemise et short. Tous deux restent sur le devant de la scène, rappant et dansant, transformant le nom de Maggie en une sorte d’incantation. La musique est un mélange réussi, la scénographie et les costumes ont le génie du DIY avec récupération de linge et objets en tous genres, les quatorze interprètes figurent des coquettes hautes en couleur, au style irréprochable, provocantes à souhait, aussi indomptables que… des chats !
