Après avoir exploré la superficialité d’une société en quête de performance et de saine beauté (1000 départs de muscles), Héla Fattoumi et Eric Lamoureux ont pris un risque énorme en prenant le voile comme on prend le maquis. Autant dire un terrain miné par le contexte politique et sociétal, et par l’actualité. Pourtant, avec une grande justesse, Manta met en scène la danseuse dans sa tentative de comprendre le voile, de le prendre avec soi. Elle le revêt avec grand soin, devant des images vidéo qu’elle pilote de son ordinateur portable. On voit le niqab dans des situations quotidiennes, en famille, cohabitant parfois avec l’expression d’une féminité complètement déplacée. Héla Fattoumi ne cherche pas à danser avec force pour contrecarrer l’entrave du tissu. Elle cherche la place de son corps, la place de son geste ; elle tente de donner une forme à l’informe, de rendre vivant un corps et une pensée.
Geste mesuré
De ce fait, de puissantes images naissent de ces expérimentations minimalistes : la mante nous perd sous des contours troubles. Où se trouve le visage, où sont les fesses ? Furtivement, elle redonne son importance à son sexe, à son identité propre plus qu’à son visage. Chaque déplacement, chaque manipulation du tissu est un geste mesuré, investi profondément. Quant Héla prend la parole, comme brisant un silence pesant, c’est presque maladroitement. Elle évoque avec sincérité et émotion les grandes figures de la féminité, qui ont su faire valoir la femme à travers son émancipation. A l’occasion de cette série au Théâtre de la Cité Internationale, sont conviées d’autres artistes du champ de la performance ou des arts visuels traitant d’une autre façon de la question du voile. Majida Khattari invente avec dérision le défilé de mode burqa, tandis que Ghazel propose une installation vidéo à la limite du burlesque. Sans oublier la table ronde, emmenée par Laure Adler avec les artistes.
