En 1998, c’était Wasla, où la danseuse explosait intérieurement dans une danse puisée aux sources de son histoire, de ses racines, de son identité de femme issue de l’autre rive de la Méditerranée. Onze ans après, c’est Manta : même envie d’interroger ce qui la fonde en tant que femme née en Tunisie. Que s’est-il passé entre-temps ? Juste un glissement, cristallisé autour du voile, vêtement-symbole à peine perçu par la petite Héla lors de son enfance en Tunisie, qui barre aujourd’hui le visage des femmes de sa propre famille. Ebranlée dans sa chair de femme éprise de liberté, elle a choisi de revêtir le hijab le temps d’un solo. C’était le moment pour elle d’éprouver ce qui se joue dans un corps ainsi entravé, sous la lourdeur du tissu et dans la pesanteur d’une prison subie. Dissimulée sous l’épais voile, elle ose et teste tout : le déhanchement, la sensualité, la transparence.

Mue par la musique orientale qui évoque la fête, elle s’arrête soudain : dans un silence pesant, apparaît brutalement la force de son regard qui surgit, seul vecteur de son identité. Ses yeux transpercent l’espace comme une lame. Son solo oscille alors entre la recherche d’états de corps induits par le port du hijab, et la mise en scène du tissu comme d’un objet plastique. Elle s’y engouffre pour lui donner forme, lui donner vie, s’inventer une existence, réinterroger sa présence en tant qu’être humain et en tant que femme. Et conclut en convoquant James Brown, la parole d’un homme qui dépeint son monde, « qui ne serait rien, sans une femme ou une fille »…. Un travail de haute volée qui continue encore aujourd’hui de la questionner. Dernièrement, elle créait au Festival Danse d’Ailleurs à Caen une performance intitulée Lost in Burqa, avec la plasticienne marocaine Majida Khattari. Une façon, de nouveau, d’affirmer aux yeux de tous ce qui doit être « soustrait à la vue, ou isolé ».
