Star mondiale de son instrument, Manu Katché est célèbre pour sa collaboration avec les plus grands noms du rock (Sting, Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel, etc…). Depuis quelques années, il participe au jury de l’émission La Nouvelle Star de M6… Mais qu’on ne s’y trompe pas, ce grand batteur reste avant tout un musicien libre et surdoué, sincèrement habité par l’esprit du jazz. « Quand je joue du jazz, on me dit que je viens du rock ; et quand je joue dans des projets rock, on parle de moi comme du « batteur de jazz Manu Katché ». En fait, je suis juste un type essayant d’être soi-même et d’être le plus créatif dans ce qu’il fait. En ce sens, je pense qu’il s’agit d’une attitude plus proche d’un certain « esprit jazz » » confie-t-il. Nouvel album : « Playground » (chez ECM). Avec Marcin Wasilewski (piano) et Slawomir Kurkiewicsz (contrebasse), Mathias Eick (trompette) et Trygve Seim (saxophone).
