1665, Anse Saint-Paul, Île de La Réunion : le Français Louis Payen et le Malgache Jean-Manang, son contremaître, se disputent la belle Marie-Maraina… L’histoire de Maraina est celled’un amour impossible sur fond de clivage ethnique et social et d’exploration du mythe des premiers habitants franco-malgaches de La Réunion. Cet « opéra de l’Océan Indien » a été conçu par Emmanuel Genvrin, fondateur du Théâtre Volard en 1979 à La Réunion, qui signe le livret et la mise en scène et assure la direction générale du projet, et le compositeur et chef d’orchestre réunionnais Jean-Luc Trulès, deux complices de longue date dont la précédente création Sega Tremblad remonte à 2000. Créé triomphalement en 2005 à La Réunion, présenté à Madagascar l’été dernier, l’ouvrage arrive cet automne en Île-de-France. Avec les voix solistes d’Aurore Ugolin, Steeve Heimanu Mai, Landy Adriamboavonjy, Karim Bouzra, Josselin Michalon, Arnaud Dormeuil et Richeville Miquel, le Chœur « Antanossi » de Magasdascar, le Grand Chœur des « Colons » (24 choristes franciliens d’origines ultramarines et malgaches) et l’Orchestre de l’Opéra de Massy dirigé par Jean-Luc Trulès.
