Selon la légende, sainte Cécile aurait entendu de la musique céleste en se rendant au lieu de son martyre. C’est ainsi qu’elle est devenue la patronne des musiciens, et accessoirement une vraie source d’inspiration pour les compositeurs. Le chef Marc Minkowski a choisi de lui rendre hommage en interprétant, à la Salle Pleyel, trois œuvres qui lui sont dédiées : Hail ! Bright Cecilia de Purcell, l’Ode for Saint Cecilia’s Day de Haendel et la Missa Cellensis de Haydn. Ces partitions ont en commun d’être particulièrement brillantes, virtuoses et colorées (avec de belles parties de trompettes et timbales). Le Chœur et l’Orchestre des Musiciens du Louvre entoureront une brochette prometteuse de solistes où l’on retrouvera notamment la contralto au grain mordoré Nathalie Stutzmann et le ténor, toujours clair et souple, Richard Croft.
