Les Romains employaient l’expression « Mare Nostrum » pour s’accaparer la Méditerranée. En 2014, ce fut le nom de l’opération humanitaire italienne visant à secourir en mer les migrants. Contre l’image d’une Méditerranée creuset de violences, écartelée entre Nord et Sud, Occident et Orient, Jordi Savall fait entendre un magnifique chant de concorde. Il dirige ses fidèles de la Capella Reial de Catalunya et d’Hespèrion XXI, avec en solistes le contre-ténor David Sagastume, le ténor Lluis Vilamajo, le baryton Furio Zanasi et la basse Daniele Carnovitch, dans un spectacle de toute beauté où dialoguent – on pourrait presque dire « communient » – les cultures musicales du bassin méditerranéen. Dans la lignée de son disque éponyme paru en 2012 (Alia Vox) où chantait feu son épouse Montserrat Figueras, le maître catalan fait résonner sa viole avec le duduk arménien et le santur iranien, retentir les percussions et les flûtes de toutes sortes, et s’élever les chants sacrés des traditions chrétiennes, juives et orthodoxes dans un mélange savamment orchestré. Comment rêver d’un plus bel écrin que celui de la Chapelle royale de Versailles pour un tel hymne de fraternité et de dépassement des dissensions par le prisme de l’art ?
