Fondé en 1856, l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo est l’une des
phalanges symphoniques historiques du continent européen. Dépositaire d’un passé
glorieux (Toscanini, Walter, Kleiber et beaucoup d’autres furent ses invités de
légende), l’orchestre fête cette saison son 150ème anniversaire. Une célébration
qui coïncide avec le départ du grand chef allemand Marek Janowski, appelé en
2000 au poste de directeur musical pour apporter une rigueur et un souffle
nouveau. Du point de vue du répertoire, son travail s’est résolument inscrit
dans une politique de changement et d’audace artistique, soulignée par
l’apparition à l’affiche des concerts d’?uvres majeures des XXe ou XXIe siècles,
de Messiaen, Dutilleux, Betsy Jolas, Canat de Chizy, Henze, Pärt, Penderecki,
Sciarino, etc. Bien connu des mélomanes parisiens, Janowski a aussi travaillé,
comme il l’a fait au Philharmonique de Radio France, sur l’homogénéité et la
sonorité d’ensemble de sa formation. Un travail à la fois d’orfèvre et de titan
qui trouvera son aboutissement dans la sublime et exigeante Symphonie n°8
(version Nowak 1890) de Bruckner. La fin d’une collaboration exemplaire. L’Orchestre
Philharmonique de Monte Carlo peut poursuivre sa route dans les meilleures
conditions’
