Marie-Agnès Gillot, danseuse étoile de l’Opéra de Paris, mène en parallèle depuis plusieurs années ses propres recherches. Les Rares Différences ont été pour elle l’occasion de se frotter à une gestuelle nouvelle : celle du hip hop. Virtuosité, précision, haute technicité et prouesses sont les points communs qu’elle a su retrouver entre son langage et celui des deux danseurs invités pour l’occasion. Pourtant, son spectacle, qui explore l’univers de Rodin, ne joue pas sur ce registre. Avec la présence d’une danseuse contemporaine, les étreintes se font sensibles sensuelles, délicates. Avec les corps des deux hip hopeurs, la statuaire se révèle dans le moindre de leurs mouvements, au plus près des muscles, comme si la chorégraphe avait elle-même sculpté la matière de la chair, la mobilité du corps. Ici, les différences de techniques ou d’univers voulus par cette rencontre se font effectivement bien rares ; il n’est plus de danse savante ou de danse de rue, mais de corps, tout simplement. Dans la même idée, Régis Obadia aligne les singularités sur Bach dans son quintette Four Men (and a woman).
