Quelles ont été les implications du désistement financier du ministère des Affaires étrangères sur l’édition 2009 des Francophonies en Limousin ?
Marie-Agnès Sevestre : Cette suppression de subvention nous met dans des difficultés très sérieuses. Je dois dire que je suis vraiment inquiète pour l’avenir des Francophonies. Les frais de fonctionnement du festival étant très réduits, cette baise de budget n’a malheureusement pu venir qu’en déduction des postes de dépenses artistiques. Cependant, nous avons tenu à honorer tous nos engagements de programmation. Nous avons donc répercuté cette perte de recettes en arrêtant de chercher des spectacles plus tôt que prévu, ce qui se traduit par une édition 2009 raccourcie de trois jours par rapport aux années précédentes.
Comment le ministère de la Culture a-t-il réagi à ce désengagement du ministère des Affaires étrangères ?
M.-A. S. : Il a fait un geste en nous octroyant une petite subvention supplémentaire. Je tiens à l’en remercier, ainsi que tous les partenaires qui nous ont apporté un soutien essentiel, comme le Théâtre de l’Union à Limoges, la Mégisserie de Saint-Junien… Ces partenaires ont accepté de se mobiliser sur des productions nouvelles, de s’engager sur des résidences de création, ce qui a impliqué, pour eux, un surcoût financier par rapport à ce qui était initialement prévu.
Quelles sont les grandes évolutions qui ont touché Les Francophonies, en 26 ans d’existence ?
M.-A. S. : Depuis leur création, Les Francophonies ont pour vocation de travailler sur la solidarité entre le Nord et le Sud, ceci en mettant en lumière de grandes figures artistiques du monde francophone. En 26 ans, le festival s’est peu à peu étoffé : il s’est ouvert à la danse, à la musique, et le Nord est devenu plus présent, à travers des artistes venant de Belgique, du Québec, de Suisse… Limoges s’est affirmé comme un véritable lieu de dialogue pour des créateurs issus de l’ensemble de la francophonie.

D’ailleurs, de plus en plus de projets associent des artistes de nationalités différentes. Aujourd’hui, les créateurs n’hésitent plus à traverser les frontières pour travailler ensemble. Toutes ces formes de métissages ont participé à l’enrichissement des Francophonies.
Quelle est la ligne directrice de cette édition 2009 ?
M.-A. S. : Cette nouvelle édition tisse un fil conducteur entre l’île de la Réunion, Madagascar et l’île Maurice. La soirée d’ouverture, conçue par Pascal Contet, exploitera ainsi la diagonale France – Océan Indien en invitant des musiciens comme Rossy, Olivier Ker Ourio ou le groupe Lo Griyo à inventer un 6e continent : celui de l’accordéon et de la musique. D’autre part, nous accueillerons deux créations de textes de l’auteure mauricienne Shenaz Patel : Paradis Blues, mise en scène par Ahmed Madani, et Sensitive, mise en scène par Léone Louis. Nous présenterons également une exposition du plasticien réunionnais Claude Caillol ; la création du dernier spectacle de Marcel Bozonnet, une adaptation du Roman de Baïbars ; Une Iliade, d’après Homère, un spectacle mis en scène par Hassane Kassi Kouyaté ; Empreintes – On posera les mots après, une création du chorégraphe et danseur congolais DeLaValet Bidiefono ; Ciels de Wajdi Mouawad, un artiste que nous soutenons depuis ses tout débuts…
Quel type de créations souhaitez-vous défendre aux Francophonies ?
M.-A. S. : Je ne souhaite pas avoir un point de vue trop structurant, une ligne de programmation trop rigide. Ce festival correspond à un continent vaste, un continent qui peut accueillir des artistes ayant des préoccupations très différentes. J’essaie d’élaborer une programmation ouverte et variée, polychrome, qui travaille sur les tensions qui se jouent entre toutes nos modernités. Tout cela se construit finalement de façon assez intuitive, sans idée préconçue de ce que sera le prochain festival. J’aime me laisser tirer par la manche par des univers artistiques que je ne connais pas, me laisser surprendre pour partir à la découverte de nouvelles émotions et de nouveaux artistes.
