La veuve Capet, l’Autrichienne, l’écervelée à la brioche et aux moutons peignés de Trianon, la baby doll raillant les contraintes de l’étiquette, le mauvais génie d’un roi trop faible ou la dépensière vaniteuse, indifférente à son peuple… Une femme, aussi, face à la mort, les cheveux blanchis par la peur et le corps affaibli par l’anémie, pleurant son mari et tremblant pour ses enfants. Il fallait un bouc émissaire : la prodigue et capricieuse étrangère était la plus facile à détester ; il fallait une icône : la blondeur fragile de l’épouse éplorée était aimable à adorer…
La femme sous le masque de la reine
Mais qui était Marie-Antoinette ? « Une femme au charme irrésistible, déchirée entre ses devoirs d’épouse et son amour impossible » pour le fringant Axel de Fersen, répond Evelyne Lever, « une reine très aimée et trop haïe » ajoute Sally Micaleff, qui met en scène ce monologue biographique interprété par Fabienne Périneau. Le texte, écrit à partir de la véritable correspondance de Marie-Antoinette, « éclaire la personnalité de la dernière reine de France, nous introduit dans son intimité », nous permet de comprendre son destin singulier, romanesque et tragique, de comprendre ses égarements politiques et, surtout, de mieux découvrir la femme sous le masque de la reine.
