« Après avoir mis en scène une adaptation du Roi Lear, je me suis demandée quel auteur allait pouvoir me nourrir et me bouleverser autant que Shakespeare l’avait fait. C’est très naturellement que Molière s’est imposé à moi. Il faut dire que ces deux auteurs ont beaucoup de points communs : ce sont tous les deux des acteurs et des chefs de troupe, ils manient l’un et l’autre à merveille l’art de mettre à nu la nature humaine, leurs pièces respectives nous renvoient tout autant à nos vices, à nos parts de déraison… Quant au choix particulier des Femmes savantes, je crois que pour une femme de théâtre, cette œuvre est incontournable. A travers elle, Molière vient interpeller, à plusieurs siècles de distance, la militante féministe que je suis. Il vient raviver en moi l’urgence de la lutte que les femmes doivent continuer de mener aujourd’hui pour tendre vers une égalité entre les sexes.
Un spectacle conçu comme un acte de résistance
Je ne m’attendais d’ailleurs pas à être réveillée à ce point par cette pièce, dont les résonances contemporaines sont saisissantes ! Molière met en avant la soif de savoir qu’ont Philaminte, Bélise et Armande. Et même si cette soif donne corps à de nombreux excès – excès que cette comédie grinçante dénonce avec beaucoup de drôlerie -, elle est également le ferment d’un combat nécessaire : celui à travers lequel des femmes militantes s’élèvent contre l’inertie du corps social afin d’assurer leur droit à l’émancipation, sans pour cela avoir à renier leur féminité. Il faut savoir qu’au XVIIème siècle, la condition de la femme n’est pas loin de l’esclavage domestique. La pratique des mariages forcés est largement répandue. Et si aujourd’hui les grandes sœurs de ces « femmes savantes » ont acquis un certain nombre de droits, il reste encore beaucoup à faire pour qu’une véritable égalité existe entre les femmes les hommes. Mettre aujourd’hui en scène cette pièce est, pour moi, un véritable acte de résistance. »
