Théâtre de l’Oulle /de Victor Hugo / mes Pascal Faber
Pascal Faber fait sien ce précepte de Vilar : « Il faut veiller à défendre Hugo contre les sots et les gens d’esprit. » Sensible à la résonnance actuelle de Marie Tudor, qui narre la passion amoureuse de la fille d’Henry VIII et Catherine d’Aragon pour un aventurier, Fabiano Fabiani, dont la chute sera inévitable, le metteur en scène a puisé dans la préface de la pièce et les écrits de Victor Hugo sur le théâtre pour rendre la pièce proche du public d’aujourd’hui. Un public « fondamentalement différent parce que Marie Tudor a été écrite en 1833 et en 180 ans les codes du jeu théâtral se sont modifiés ; mais tellement proche car ce dont nous parle Hugo est intemporel : des êtres humains guidés par leurs passions, leurs volontés et leurs ambitions… » Drame amoureux, tragédie sur le pouvoir, mais aussi « drame policier populaire » et « thriller décomplexé » : les leviers sont nombreux. N’est-ce pas le principe même des grandes œuvres ?
