PHILHARMONIE / SYMPHONIQUE (AVEC PIANO)
Marin Alsop dirige en ouverture de programme Tuxedo : Vasco de Gama d’Hannah Kendall (née en 1984), une courte pièce symphonique inspirée d’une œuvre de Jean-Michel Basquiat. Alors qu’une exposition à la Philharmonie souligne la prégnance de la musique dans l’œuvre graphique et picturale de l’artiste new-yorkais, la compositrice britannique joue des contrastes et du mixage des objets sonores. Autre thème que l’on pourrait lier à l’art de Basquiat, la variation est le moyen que Leonard Bernstein emploie dans son étonnante Symphonie « The Age of Anxiety » pour piano et orchestre (1949), afin de traduire les échanges entre les personnages du poème éponyme de W.H. Auden. David Fray tiendra la partie soliste de cette œuvre singulière. En deuxième partie, Marin Alsop dirige la Symphonie « héroïque » de Beethoven, icône symphonique à laquelle répondent les trois toiles de la série Eroica composées par Basquiat à la fin de sa vie et où graphiquement, textuellement, on peut voir (ou entendre) l’écho de la célèbre marche funèbre du second mouvement.
