Martha Graham, monstre sacré de la danse, danseuse et chorégraphe exceptionnelle, libre, révolutionnaire et admirée par les plus grands – Cunningham, qui a dansé avec elle, Béjart et bien d’autres. Le metteur en scène José Possi Neto et le chorégraphe Anselmo Zolla conjuguent ici leur talent pour mettre en forme leur regard singulier, brésilien, sur l’œuvre et l’univers de Martha Graham. Il ne s’agit pas d’explorer son répertoire ou d’imiter son travail, mais bien d’une sorte d’exégèse. « Comme si l’on visitait un atelier d’artiste. On ferme les yeux et l’on se transporte dans son monde. » confie José Possi Neto. Ils ont tous deux étudié six mois la vie et le travail de la grande artiste afin de pouvoir épurer, affiner et sculpter un langage scénique qui puisse résonner comme un écho de l’univers, des méthodes et de la technique de l’artiste.
Entre liberté et fidélité
Ils ont ainsi rêvé certains moments et entre liberté et fidélité ils donnent à voir des pans de vie et de son art de la danse. Le spectacle combine textes – que Martha Graham a écrits à propos des cours qu’elle donnait aux acteurs -, mouvements et images. « Des images qui parlent »… Véra Lafer interprète le rôle de Martha Graham, qui commence par l’image de sa solitude. Les danseurs de la compagnie Studio 3, dotés d’une belle maturité et d’une forte personnalité, apportent un supplément d’âme à l’interprétation. La scène de la rencontre entre Martha et le pianiste et pédagogue Louis Horst, le grand amour de sa vie, est ainsi particulièrement marquante. « Le danseur cherche toujours la part apollonienne. Or, pour être dramatique, il faut aussi une part dionysienne. » Il suffit de penser à Martha Graham, à son visage aussi, pour comprendre ce que cela veut dire…
