Théâtre Victor-Hugo / Bagneux
Guitariste singulière que l’on pourrait décrire comme l’enfant cachée de Mary Osborne et Marc Ribot (tout anachronisme mis à part), Mary Halvorson déploie, avec Amaryllis, ses talents de compositrice. Elle vient les illustrer au Théâtre Victor-Hugo de Bagneux dans le cadre de la tournée qui accompagne la sortie du troisième album de sa formation sous le label Nonesuch, Cloudward. Réunion éclectique de talents typiquement new-yorkais, son sextet comprend Patricia Brennan au vibraphone, Nick Dunston à la contrebasse, Tomas Fujiwara, de longue date à la batterie, et deux remarquables soufflants, Jacob Garchik au trombone et Adam O’Farrill à la trompette. Cette instrumentation riche, dans laquelle la guitare de Halvorson, à l’articulation toujours rigoureusement précise – même dans les moments les plus déstructurés -, occupe une place non négligeable, ouvre un kaléidoscope résolument contemporain dans lequel s’entrechoquent savamment les musiques qui font la diversité du jazz depuis un demi-siècle. Et c’est assez stupéfiant !
