Des six solos écrits par Serge Valletti dans les années 80, Mary’s à minuit est sans doute le plus connu. Dans une langue aussi colorée que vertigineuse, il raconte l’histoire de Maryse, la sœur d’un ami que l’auteur visitait en prison. Il s’agit du soliloque d’une femme qui parle d’elle-même, de son passé et de ses attentes dans un flot de paroles et de digressions qui font qu’on ne sait plus très bien s’il s’agit de réalité ou de folie. Mais comme le remarque le metteur en scène Dominique Jacquot, « l’histoire d’un fou n’aurait rien d’intéressant si elle ne venait pas nous parler de nous tous et ainsi nous permettre de regarder le monde autrement. La valeur humaine de la folie, c’est le miroir qu’elle nous tend ». Et pour les amoureux des textes de Serge Valletti, Dominique Jacquot et sa complice Marie-Anne Jamaux proposent également, dans le même théâtre et aux mêmes horaires, un autre de ses solos : Au bout du comptoir, la mer ! en alternance pendant les jours pairs.
